Turban Garlic is a term for a sub-group of the Artichoke group of garlics, itself a subgroup of softneck garlics.
There are at least 3 varieties of garlic that belong to this group.
The bulbs have purplish-red striped skin. The cloves inside are in a single layer, with a pale skin that is glossy pink or brownish-pink.
The central stalk of the plants above ground is a bit weaker than that of other members of the Artichoke group of garlic. At the top of their stalks, they produce a capsule that is turban-shaped, and thus the name of the grouping. The plants will also look smaller than other garlics above ground, but produce good-sized bulbs underground.
Turban Garlic is ready to harvest earlier than other garlics.
