Trailman Applecrabs

Trailman Applecrabs grow to be up to 1.75 to 2 inches (4 to 5 cm) wide. They are oval, egg-shaped, and ribbed.

They have thin golden skin. The side that got the sun will be covered with a reddish-brown flush.

Inside, they have firm, crunchy yellowish flesh. It has a juicy, rich, tart flavour with a bit of sweet.

The fruit ripens during September in Manitoba, Canada.

The tree is very cold hardy, and starts bearing fruit when young.

Cooking Tips
For fresh-eating, canning, reasonably good for juice.

Also very good flavour when dehydrated.

Storage
Stores for up to 6 weeks.

History
Trailman Applecrabs were developed from a cross between Trail and Osman Green apples done by a Dr. C. R. Use at Agriculture Canada's Morden Research Station in Morden, Manitoba, and later by by R. E. Harris at the Beaverlodge Research Station.
