Traditional Free-Range

In the UK, according to Defra's "Poultrymeat Marketing Regulations", Traditional Free-Range means that more outdoor space is allowed per bird than with just "Free-Range" birds.

The birds' coops are mobile, and can be moved to fresh locations. Slower-growing breeds are used than for "Free-Range" birds, because the birds must be at least 81 days old before being slaughtered.

The open air space must be mainly covered by vegetation, and be in the following proportions:

Per chicken, Muscovy or Peking duck: 2 square metres;
Per other ducks: 3 square metres;
Per turkey: 6 square metres;
Per goose: 10 square metres.

The minimum slaughter age is 81 days for chickens. For other fowl, the age varies, but is higher.
