Tinda Gourds are sometimes referred to as a squash, but they are actually a gourd.

They look somewhat like flattened green apple. They are about the size of a large apple, and weigh about 2 oz (50g.) The gourd has soft fuzzy hairs on the green rind, and white flesh inside.

They grow on a vine that grows up to 5 feet (1 1/2 metres) long. The gourds appear about 70 days after planting.

Tinda Gourds are used in Indian cooking, particularly stews and curries. They are also used in cooking in places such as Pakistan and Ghana.

You can buy Tinda Gourds fresh or canned.
