Sunflower Oil
© Copyright 2010. Do not copy. All rights reserved and enforced.Sunflower Oil is made from sunflower seeds. The seeds grow in a tough shell that is striped black and white. They are hulled, then pressed to extract the oil.
The oil is a clear, light gold colour with a neutral flavour, allowing it to be used as a general-purpose vegetable oil. It can be used for anything from deep-frying to making salad dressing or mayonnaise. Its neutral flavour also makes it a good oil to help carry the flavour of expensive, highly flavoured oils that you only use in small amounts, such as Nut Oils or Truffle Oil.
It is usually refined, giving it a high smoke point of 450 F (232 C.)
You can also buy cold-pressed, which is unrefined. It has a more pronounced flavour, but a lower smoke point of 225 F (107 C.)
