Reprint Permission

IP rights are worth protecting
Practically Edible asks everyone to respect our copyright on the material on the site, both written and graphic, as the material you see represents thousands upon thousands of hours of work. We take ownership of our Intellectual Property very seriously and theft of it just as seriously. If you find our content somewhere before we do, please report it to us.

Generally, we view links to Practically Edible as sufficient material to provide your readers. We do not change our links; you need not worry about "link rot" if you link to us.

To get a short, concise link, please use the "Easy Link" link available on each page.

No permission is required to link to us. Blanket permission is granted to link to, or cite links to, any page on Practicallyedible.com . If you are a publisher whose guidelines requires this in writing directly to you, email us and we can email you the permission.

To reproduce any of the text or any of images on Practically Edible.com, the following conditions apply to you [note the separate conditions that apply to images]:

Not-for-profit use / Blog Use
Reprint permission is generally granted for not-for-profit use in print or in electronic format provided the following conditions are met:

(a) The quantity being reproduced is a reasonable one. If the article being cited is a long one, in our view a reasonable quantity constitutes one or two paras which are germane to the topic being discussed, with a link directing your readers where they can view the rest of the article. We will not view an entire long article as a reasonable amount for you to reproduce without our permission. This applies to discussion groups, blogs and usenet groups as well as all other formats. If the article is a short one -- only one para or a few lines -- then obviously you will probably need to quote the entire thing. That, too, though should be accompanied by a link.

(b) If the material being reproduced is being reprinted in a formal publication, electronic or print, the material reprinted must accompanied by the following disclaimer:

"Reprinted by the express permission of the Publisher of Practically Edible.
Ed. Randal W. Oulton. [Month and Year]. http://www.practicallyedible.com"

(c) You send an email to (i) acknowledging acceptance of these conditions, and (ii) letting us know when and where the material is being or will be republished. If you are reproducing in a formal publication, print or electronic, (iii) please send us a final copy of the article.

If the blog is tied to a commercial undertaking, then the conditions under For-Profit use apply.

News and Discussion Groups
Reposting reasonable amounts of material in news and discussion groups is permitted with these conditions:

(a) If the article being cited is a long one, in our view a reasonable amount constitutes one or two paras which are germane to the topic being discussed. We will not view an entire long article as a reasonable amount (nor likely will your readers who are forced to wade through it all.) If the article is a short one -- only one para or a few lines -- then obviously you will probably need to quote the entire thing.

and

(b) The material copied must be accompanied by: "Source: Practically Edible (http://www.practicallyedible.com/exactlink.)" Our links can be complex, owing to the site necessarily being in frames, but you can easily obtain the exact link in a lovely, short format by clicking the "Copy Link" link at the top of the page in question, then pasting the link where you need to.

For-Profit / Commercial Use
If you wish to reproduce any amount at all of material from Practically Edible in a for-profit publication, or on a commercial web site, you must obtain our permission. Please contact us at:

Violation of Re-use Terms
You agree to all the Reprint Conditions above by reproducing or re-printing in any format any quantity of our material. If we disagree with your interpretation of the Reprint Conditions, our interpretation prevails.

Re-use of our material is a privilege. In order to protect this privilege for those who abide by our Reprint Conditions, we will pursue legal re-course against those who violate the terms. If the violation is an electronic one on the Internet, we will also formally request your Online Service Provider, under provisions of the Online Copyright Infringement Liability Limitation Act (DMCA 512, aka the DMCA Takedown Provisions, 1998), to take action against your violation on our behalf.

You should also understand that under terms of international copyright treaties, all original work is deemed to have copyright in it inherently. Copyright is an innate trait; not something that is stamped on. Presence of the © Copyright symbol is merely a courtesy reminder. All material present on Practically Edible is copyright; none of it is public domain.

There may be those who do not respect our Intellectual Property. Consequently, Practically Edible uses automated agents which regularly query search engines for unauthorized use of our material, whether written or graphic. You will be found.
