Munki are Finnish jam doughnuts made from white wheat flour risen with yeast, and kneaded. They are cooked by frying them up in oil.

Like most jam doughnuts, there is no hole in them.

There are a few variations.

The jam inside can be raspberry jam, strawberry jam or apple. The doughnut can be round with the jam in the middle, and rolled in white sugar when done. Or, the doughnut can have an indent in the centre, be rolled in white sugar when done, then the jam is placed in the indent on top the sugar.

Berliininmunkki are round with jam in the middle. The jam inside can be raspberry jam, strawberry jam or apple. The doughnuts are decorated with pink sugar icing.

Language Notes
Munki are named monks, referring to the resemblance to their bald heads.
