Karaka Black Berry bushes have thorns, but produce high yields of easy to reach and pick fruit. The fruit ripens over a 6 to 8 week period, making it good for pick your own operations.

The berries are large, about 1/3 oz (10 g) in weight.

The longish, glossy black berries are firm with a mild blackberry taste. They can be tart if not allowed to fully ripen.

History
Karaka Black Berries were developed by HortResearch in New Zealand, who hold the rights to it, from a cross between two berries referred to as "M103" and "N71."
