Imperator Carrots are 8 to 11 inches (20 to 28 cm) long, about 1 1/2 inches (4 cm) thick at the top. They are deeply orange coloured, with a somewhat coarse core, and are not as sweet as other carrots.
But, they store well, and because of that are one of the most common carrots found sold fresh in North America to consumers and to processors.
Many brands of pseudo baby carrots are cut from Imperators.
Varieties include Apache, A-Plus, Artist, Bejo, Blaze, Carobest, Choctaw, Convert, Crusader, Eagle, Estelle, First Class, Heritage, Imperator 58, Nelson, Nogales, Orangette, Prospector, Spartan Premium 80, Sunrise and Sweetness.
Compared to Danvers carrots, Imperator Carrots are thinner at the top and somewhat longer.
