Holstein are large-sized apples, slightly oval, and flattened at the bottom.
They have yellow skin covered with a reddish-orange blush, with occasional russetting.
Inside, the creamy-yellow flesh is firm, juicy, aromatic, and slightly coarsely textured.
It has good flavour, being a good balance of sweetness and tartness.
The fruit ripens late-September in England.
The tree won't pollinate other apple trees.
Cooking Tips
For fresh-eating or for pies.
History
Holstein Apples were developed from a Cox's Orange Pippin seedling tree in Hamburg, Germany in 1918.
They were introduced in 1950.
