Haw Flakes
© Copyright 2010. Do not copy. All rights reserved and enforced.Haw Flakes are basically fruit leather that is cut into disc shapes about the size of a 25 cent coin (in the States or Canada), or a 2 p piece in the UK.
The flakes are made from hawthorne berries, sugar, water and Red Dye No. 40. They serve as a "not overly sweet" treat for children.
They are very soft, slightly granular and flaky, and dry, not gummy. But as you start to chew a Haw Flake, it gets very gummy and will stick to your teeth.
Very inexpensive, they are sold in packaging that ranges from foil to clear plastic to paper cylinders. They are also sold in rectangular slabs.
Haw Flakes are popular in China and other parts of Asia.
