Hautbois Strawberries
The Hautbois Strawberries is perennial, growing up to 45 cm (18 inches) tall, but it also spreads via runners and provides ground cover.

It is hardy, able to withstand some frost, but the plant is not overly productive in terms of fruit.

The fruit, though small and not abundant, is deep red colour, and sweet, fragrant and juicy, with concentrated flavour and somewhat of a musky taste.

Two cultivars have been developed: Capron and Profumata di Tortona.

History

was cultivated from the 1400s to the 1600s in France and Germany, but interest was lost with the arrival of new strawberry species from the New World
native to an area ranging from southern Europe through to Siberia

brought to eastern coast of North America by settlers in the 1600s

Language Notes
