They will be 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch wide (1.25 to 2 cm.) The vines they grow on need to be staked because they can grow up to 7 feet tall (2 metres.) Harvesting Grape Tomatoes is very labour intensive: they have to be hand picked because they are so small. The yields are about 50% less than with Cherry Tomatoes (at least for the Santa variety.) But producers like them, because with a thicker skin than Cherry Tomatoes, they ship very well. Consumers like them because they are sweet, firm and less juicy than Cherry Tomatoes, so they won't explode all over the front of your shirt when you bite into them. Varieties include Santa F1, Chiquita, Jolly Elf, Morning Light (Yellow), Red Grape, Sweet Olive and Tami-G.
