Gran Torres is made in Spain from Valencia orange peel steeped in aged brandy, flavoured with herbs such as thyme and rosemary, and with orange blossom honey. Cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, coffee and molasses also add to the flavour.
It is aged in oak barrels.
Its orange flavour is more subtle than in other orange liqueurs; more of the brandy taste comes through.
Made by the Torres company in Barcelona, founded in 1800, and which is still family run.
Alcohol content is 39% abv.
Cooking Tips
Can be drunk straight up or on the rocks. Can also be used in cooking.
History
Jaime Torres Vendrell went to Cuba in 1861, when he was 18 years old, and stayed there until 1870. While there, he learned of liqueurs being made from oranges in the Caribbean, particularly Martinique.
