3 August

The Egton Bridge Gooseberry Show is held the first Tuesday of every August at Egton Bridge, North Yorkshire, England.

They hold a contest for who has the biggest gooseberries by weight. There are 4 contest categories: red, yellow, green and white. To produce prize-winning giant gooseberries, you have to look at a gooseberry bush, decide which particular gooseberry you feel lucky about, then remove all the other berries from the bush.

The contest is managed by the Gooseberry Show Committee of the Egton Bridge Old Gooseberry Society, formed in 1800. The contest has been held since about that time.

The town is named after a bridge, which sadly got washed away in the 1930s. It was reconstructed in 1992.
