Coconut Flakes Flaked Coconut Shredded Coconut

Desiccated Coconut is dried Coconut. It can be bought sweetened or unsweetened, and grated fine, medium or coarse, flaked or shredded.

It is usually sold in bags.

Cooking Tips
To toast it, spread the Desiccated Coconut out on a baking sheet and toast under broiler or grill just until it starts to brown. It will happen all at once, so don't wander off to answer the phone. A slower but more cautious method is just to use the oven, at 325 F (160 C) for about 10 minutes.

If your Desiccated Coconut has become really desiccated (i.e. brittle and totally dried), you can soak it in water or milk for about 15 minutes. Drain, and dry the coconut on paper towel. You can use the liquid in your recipe or freeze for another use.
