Crown Prince Squash is a winter squash, shaped like a pumpkin.

Its hard rind is sometimes a pale, bluish-grey, sometimes a steely-blue.

The squash can grow easily up to 5 pounds (2.5 kg), and not uncommonly up to 15 ½ pounds (7 kg.) Owing to its size, the squash is often sold in wedges.

Inside, the flesh is very gold.

The squash grow on long vines, about 3 per vine.

The plant is a hybrid, so it won't reproduce reliably from seed from any of the squashes you grow.

Cooking Tips
Holds it shape well when cooked, making it good for stews, etc.

Storage
Store 4 to 6 months in a cool place. Once sliced open, though, you obviously have to use it up.

The rind colour may fade in storage.

History
Crown Prince Squash was developed in New Zealand.
