It will be curved, fat at the end where the blossom was, and much narrower at the stem end. Inside, it has off-white or pale yellow flesh, with a slightly sweet taste and mild flavour. There are actually several varieties of Crookneck Squash. All have yellow skin, but the skin can be rough or smooth. Ones with bumpy skin will have it get even more bumpy as the squash matures. The bumpy one is a Cucurbita pepo variety of squash; the smoother one is a Cucurbita moschata variety. The smooth skinned one will grow vines 6 to 7 feet (about 2 metres) long. Butternut squash was developed from the smooth-skinned variety. 45 days from seed. Cooking Tips Also called: Cucurbita moschata Crookneck, Cucurbita pepo Crookneck (Scientific Name)
