Chempedak is a fruit related to jackfruit, but smaller and thinner, with a slight ridge around its middle.

The fruit is about 12 inches (30 cm) long, with thin rind covered in flattened studs.

Inside, it has dark yellow flesh, and is sweet and juicy.

It can be used as jackfruit is, but it is considered better tasting than jackfruit.

The Chempedak tree needs 2 to 3 years, sometimes in the wild up to 5 years, of growth before it will start to bear fruit.

A tree produces both male and female flowers that have a scent like watermelon. The flowers are pollinated by a combination of fungus and insects. A fungus called "Choanephora" grows on the male flowers. It attracts the insects, which then do the pollinating,
