Bon mots
"It is disgusting to notice the increase in the quantity of coffee used by my subjects, and the amount of money that goes out of the country as a consequence. Everybody is using coffee; this must be prevented. His Majesty was brought up on beer, and so were both his ancestors and officers. Many battles have been fought and won by soldiers nourished on beer, and the King does not believe that coffee-drinking soldiers can be relied upon to endure hardships in case of another war."

-- Frederick the Great of Prussia (24 January 1712 – 17 August 1786)
Upcoming Food Days
In the Gregorian calendar, the Catholic Church had assigned a saint to each day of the year that were called "feast days." To set up a new secular tradition, the days in the French Revolutionary metric calendar were instead designated to celebrate something from rural life: food, nature, or agricultural events.

Days that ended in 0 (10, 20, 30) were assigned to an agricultural implement. Days ending in a 5 (5, 15, 25) were assigned to an animal. All other days were assigned to a plant, or a mineral. More Info >>
