Button Mushrooms
These are the smallest and youngest White Mushrooms. They are very firm and white, and very bland tasting. They will be 1 to 2 inches (2 to 5 cm) wide at the top, and round. In cooking, they are good for dishes that involve white sauces, as they won't discolour the sauce. They are often put out along with celery and dried-out, raw carrot sticks with a dip to make a very uninteresting crudité platter.

If allowed to grow further, the mushroom will become a Closed Cup Mushroom.
