Bound Salads

Bound Salads are salads that are generally made of hearty, non-salad leafy ingredients bound together by a thick dressing. Usually, the dressing is mayonnaise, a boiled dressing or Miracle Whip (though no Foodie wants to admit the existence of Miracle Whip, that doesn't change the fact that at least half the Bound Salads in North America are probably made with it.)
The salads are chilled before serving to develop and meld flavours, and to keep at a safe temperature.
While most men at a picnic or buffet table will drift on by the bowls of tossed green salads, they will stop and fill up their plates from the bowls of Bound Salads. A chilled pasta salad, tossed with olive oil, probably doesn't pass as a Bound Salad, though upon seeing carbohydrates men will still empty that bowl, anyway.
Tuna salad, potato salad, macaroni salad, seafood salads and chicken salad are examples of bound salads.
