Banana Melons

Banana Cantaloupe

Banana Melons are long melons, 16 to 24 inches (40 to 60 cm) long by 4 inches (10 cm) wide, with smooth, yellow skin with slight netting.

They will weigh 4 to 5 pounds (1.8 to 2.2 kg.)

Inside, they have juicy light orange or pink flesh, with an intense, spicy flavour. They don't, however, have the taste of bananas, whatever your seed catalogue might say.

They will be sweet if allowed to fully ripen, and if they have good, hot weather while growing.

They are not very aromatic before being cut open.

80 to 100 days from seed.

Banana Melons were being sold in American seed catalogues as early as 1885 (by J.H. Gregory Co.)
